February 12, 2019, Muyuka, Fako State, Southern Ambazonia: Many civilians, injured and killed as the Cameroon Occupational Forces launched a voilent attacked on civilians as they were randomly firing live rounds, abducting numerous individuals, and killing innocent people. Many civilians sustained severe injuries as they desperately attempted to flee the stray bullets. This tragic incident reflects a grave violation International Humanitarian Law and it is qualified as a War Crime due to the deliberate targeting of non-combatants.
Under the Geneva Conventions, particularly Article 3 common to all the four convention. Civilians are entitled to protection from violence, including indiscriminate attacks, threats to life, and extrajudicial killings. By firing randomly in a civilian-populated area, the Cameroonian forces clearly violated the principle of distinction, a core rule of International Humanitarian Law. This principle obliges armed forces to differentiate between combatants and civilians. There by ensuring that non-combatants remain protected and unharmed during military operations.
Additionally, Many civilians injured and killed without due process further highlight the blatant disregard for International Law. These actions infringe on basic Human Right. Where it enshrined in International Statutes, including the right to life and fair treatment. The severe injuries inflicted on those attempting to escape also underscore the reckless and indiscriminate nature of the attack. which intensified the suffering of innocent civilians in Ambazonia.
To conclude, Beyond violating the Geneva Conventions, these actions contravene the United Nations’ principles on civilian protection during armed war. Such indiscriminate attacks and acts of violence inflict enduring trauma on affected communities, depriving them of safety, dignity, and peace. This incident in Muyuka, exposes the systemic disregard by Cameroonian Occupation Forces for the rules of war. Calling for urgent international accountability to prevent further atrocities and protect civilian populations in Ambazonia.
