September 16, 2022, Mamfe, Manyu State, Southern Ambazonia: St. Mary Catholic Church in Nchang was set ablaze by the Cameroon Occupational Forces. They also abducted five priests, a nun, and two parishioners. The attackers demanded a ransom of $50,000 for the hostages’ release. This shocking incident has sparked outrage among church officials, the local diocese, and the broader community. However, Church leaders strongly condemned the attack. Further, describing it as a serious escalation of violence and a deliberate assault on religious institutions in the ongoing war.

Nevertheless, the abduction of religious leaders and parishioners also raises significant concerns. While the growing disregard for Human Rights and the safety of non-combatants in war zones. Again Church officials have called on the International Community to intervene and secure the release of the hostages. Also, urging an end to the targeting of religious institutions.
