October 10, 2024, Bova Munyenge, Fako Buea, Southern Ambazonia: the ongoing war in Ambazonia witnessed another horrific atrocity as Cameroon’s Occupation Forces executed more than seven innocent civilians in Bova, Bova Munyenge, in Fako Buea.
The victims were forcibly removed from their homes, subjected to violent intimidation, and then killed in cold blood. This massacre is part of a systematic campaign of terror that has marked the Cameroonian Occupation Force’s repression of Ambazonian self-determination.
The Bova Massacre follows a long history of brutal crackdowns by Cameroon’s colonial government, often referred to as Mbomboko. This systemic violence aims to silence dissent and suppress the Ambazonian independence movement. The indiscriminate killings, forced displacements, and destruction of villages reveal the true extent of the occupation forces’ cruelty against the English-speaking population of Ambazonia, who have endured decades of marginalization.
The execution of unarmed civilians in Bova constitutes a clear War Crime. According to the Geneva Conventions, targeting non-combatants, forcibly removing civilians from their homes, and carrying out extrajudicial killings are grave violations of International Humanitarian Law. Cameroon’s Occupation Forces have consistently ignored these laws, perpetuating unchecked violence against the Ambazonian people.
The actions of Cameroon’s Occupation Forces go beyond war crimes; they amount to genocide. The systematic killing of Ambazonian civilians, coupled with the destruction of their homes and cultural identity, signifies an attempt to eradicate their existence. The International Community must recognize these crimes for what they are and take immediate action.
The global community, human rights organizations, and International legal bodies must hold the Cameroon colonial government accountable for these atrocities. Justice for the victims of the Bova Massacre is essential for any hope of peace in Ambazonia. Silence is complicity—urgent intervention is necessary to prevent further bloodshed.
