Extortions

The war in Ambazonia has led to severe human rights violations by the Cameroon occupation forces. These forces have been implicated in numerous crimes against civilians, including abduction, rape, extortions, and unlawful detention.09 September 2024.

Abduction and Unlawful Detention

One of the most egregious crimes is the abduction and unlawful detention of civilians. Individuals, including minors, are often taken from their homes without legal justification. These abductions are frequently followed by demands for ransom, placing immense financial and emotional strain on the victims’ families.

Rape and Sexual Violence

Sexual violence is used as a weapon of war by the occupation forces. Numerous cases of rape have been reported, with victims often being women and young girls. These heinous acts violate the victims’ dignity and leave lasting psychological scars. The use of rape as a tool of oppression is a grave violation of international human rights laws.

Extortion and Financial Exploitation

Extortions is another common tactic. Civilians are often forced to pay large sums of money for their release or to avoid further harassment. This financial exploitation exacerbates the already dire economic conditions in Ambazonia, leaving many families in financial ruin.

Impact on Civilians

The cumulative effect of these atrocities has been devastating. Families are torn apart, and communities live in constant fear. The psychological trauma inflicted on the victims, especially children, is profound and long-lasting. The ongoing conflict has also led to significant displacement, with many seeking refuge in neighboring regions.

The international community must urgently intervene to address these human rights violations. Independent investigations are needed to hold the perpetrators accountable and ensure justice for the victims.
