April 4, 2019, Mamfe, Manyu State, Northern Ambazonia: Innocent civilians were abducted, killed, and their bodies abandoned in the bushes by Cameroon Occupational Forces. Days later, the corpses were discovered in an advanced state of decomposition, highlighting the cruelty and inhumanity of this act. This incident constitutes a grave violation of International Humanitarian Law and it is qualified as a War Crime.

Under Common Article 3 of the Geneva Convention, civilians must be treated humanely and are entitled to protection from violence, murder, and extrajudicial punishment. As the innocent civilians were abducted killed without any due process, the Cameroon Occupation Forces directly violates these protections. Which are designed to safeguard non-combatants in war situations. Extrajudicial killings executions carried out without a trial—are strictly prohibited under International Law, as they deny individuals the fundamental right to life and justice.

The abandonment of the victims’ bodies in remote bushes adds another dimension of inhumane treatment to this atrocity. The improper disposal and concealment of corpses violate International Humanitarian Standards. Which mandates that the dead must be treated with respect and dignity. The Geneva Convention emphasize that even in times of war, parties must ensure proper treatment and burial. And of the deceased individuals to preserve their dignity and offer closure to grieving families. Dumping bodies in bushes, with no regard for the families of the deceased, constitutes a clear affront to these principles.

Including the Geneva Convention and Customary International Law. These violations highlight the urgent need for accountability and justice to address the suffering inflicted upon innocent civilians.

This atrocity in Manyu demonstrates the devastating impact of impunity and disregard for humanitarian principles in warzones. The international community must condemn such actions .And also to ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their crimes. Justice and accountability remain critical not only for the victims. But also for their families for upholding the rule of law and protecting civilians from further atrocities in the ongoing war.
