Munyenge Massacre

Thursday, October 10, 2024, more than seven innocent civilians were brutally murdered in Munyenge, Meme Ambazonia, The massacre, ordered by Okalai Bilai, the colonial governor of Meme, has shocked the local and international community. Among the victims was Mr. John Ndi Tebei, a respected teacher at an Ambazonian community school, who was specifically targeted for his role in educating children within the community. His murder, along with those of other civilians, underscores the escalating violence faced by the Ambazonian people, who have long been struggling for self-determination.

Mr. Tebei’s dedication to educating the youth in Ambazonia community school represents the broader Ambazonian effort to rebuild their society despite relentless oppression. The killing of a teacher, whose only “crime” was the empowerment of future generations, reflects the systematic destruction of the Ambazonian identity. Such attacks, sanctioned by state officials, show a disturbing trend of targeting those who support the development of the Ambazonian community, particularly educators, activists, and civilians advocating for peace and autonomy.

The international community, including the United Nations and world leaders, must take immediate action to address the ongoing Munyenge Massacre, and across Ambazonia. Since the onset of the Ambazonia war, thousands of lives have been lost, and many more are displaced, living in fear of the Cameroonian occupation forces’ heavy-handed operations. The silence or slow response from global powers and humanitarian organizations is alarming, as each day brings new reports of atrocities, human rights abuses, and the erasure of Ambazonian culture and identity.

We strongly condemn this Munyenge Massacre and genocide across Ambazonia and urge international bodies to hold the Cameroonian government accountable for the atrocities committed against the Ambazonian people. These killings cannot be allowed to continue with impunity. Immediate action is needed to stop the violence, provide protection for civilians, and initiate a peaceful dialogue that respects the rights and aspirations of Ambazonians. The world must not turn a blind eye to the suffering of a people yearning for justice, freedom, and peace.
